editor’s note:
Another feature of the fictional social media site OneApp is that it allows users to post or respond with up to 30-second live/real-time video that can be transcribed to text by an AI bot. The app is designed to ensure that only live video, no pre-recorded video can be uploaded, and the location and time must be posted and verified. This allows people to see how other users live and react in real time. In addition users wish to record messages longer than 30 seconds they have the option to livestream. Users who wish to become popular on the app will really have to be living the life they claim. They can’t be faking workouts and photo shoots if they wish to promote their brand. This also forces independent journalists to prove that they’re really at the events they claim to be covering and they are who they claim to be. Bri and Carlos have become popular because of their nuance, multi-dimensional entertaining personalities, and authenticity. Obviously this raises privacy concerns, but that will be addressed later as part of the story.
Bri 10:02AM (text): Almost had a stroke! Just thought for the first time how my career would be over with no social media. I figured financial institutions and infrastructure would be targeted before social media. Crazy how we depend on something we have no control over.
Bri 11:01AM (live video transcript): From my years covering these agencies I know better than to trust them. Noooope. If people knew how vulnerable we are to a cyber attack they’d lose their minds…so they don’t say nothing. And the lack of preparation appears to be deliberate, y’all. So now that they messed up and got exposed…the next thing they’ll do is ask for billions from the government to spend on upgrading security , when they could’ve done shit that years ago.
Bri 1:24 PM(text): Looks like I’ll have to do some digging to find what really happened. I’ll let y’all know what I’m hearing.
Bri 2:33 PM(text): Ion know much about computers, but my friends who are in tech are saying the systems are functioning normally, but they’re concerned there may be something called malware installed in the background. They haven’t been able to detect anything yet.
Bri: 5:44 PM(live video transcript) Look y’all I ain’t hearing nothing really new, so I’m just out here getting some drinks as y’all can see. *Laughter* I’ll keep y’all updated. Peace.
Bri: 8:02 PM(text) I’m hearing that peoples follower counts on IG, Tiktok, Facebook and Twitter been altered. What are y’all hearing? Hmu in the box. (inbox)
Bri: 8:11 PM (text) Get the conspiracy theories going!
Bri: 9:37 PM (live video transcript) So check this out y’all…the word on the street is that this attack went and deleted lots of bot accounts. They said lots of the bots…but not all…so don’t be misquoting me. OK! We all hate the spamming and scamming-ass bots, all in the comments section, creating fake account. Who even falls for that? I remember they made a fake account for my aunt’s IG and slid in the DM’s trnya get me to send them money. Had to block them with the swiftness and in the smoothest fashion. So these bots are everywhere. And then there’s the fact that half of your favorite artists fanbase is probably bots. So that’s why people’s follower numbers is jacked up. Anyways I got pop me a couple edibles and go to space *laughs*…Goodnight
